We are Fiercely Protected by Rabbits

The backlawn in summer:
Junebugs and cool air falling.
The raspberries
prepare to sleep.
Deer come to reclaim
ghosts left at daybreak
in the thin forest.
The world darkening, our skin
begins to breathe.
Frogs vibrate and
rabbits line up like gray stones
by all the gates.
