Advancing to Celestial Mechanics
Jennifer Ley
I used to think knowing the y
of it led to solving the equation,
was one of those lynch pins
you drop into a broken mechanism
to see it grind to life again,
pulleys in place. The fulcrum
would shift, move me if not mountains.
This before I learned of Foucault,
the uncertain properties of pendular
shift, an earth that refuses to remain
constant but continues to spin
on its axis, rendering x a mutable force.
I was a child, an abacus in my hands
struggling to count the stars.
