Table Trapped

Byron Lee Sacre

Dining out in unknown places
you don't entirely trust,
(You spy a line of dust,
and ancient flatware clad in rust),
be polite, go through the paces,
practice cultivated graces,
and nibble slightly--if you must.

When you're faced with soup or salad
you feel is none too clean,
(A wiggler in the green,
and movement in the soup tureen),
have some faith this may be valid,
though ingestion turn you pallid,
for eating less will make you lean.

When you dine in cafes chancy
and dreading deadly plague,
(Bacillus in an egg,
or salmonella chicken leg),
buck up whether plain or fancy,
just endure this necromancy,
and make your praise polite but vague.
